Rally to RYS – 2016

Over the weekend of Saturday 3rd September and Sunday 4th September the X-Yachts Owners Association held their Summer Rally, although you may be forgiven for thinking it was the winter rally given the weather. However, the torrential rain didn’t dampen spirits as the fleet met in the world famous Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes.

X-Yachts from around the UK arrived and moored in the Squadrons own yacht haven where Bruce and Jane Horton hosted pre-dinner drinks on board their Xp50 ‘Tean’.  20+ people managed to gather under the awning in their cockpit for a glass of wine and nibbles and shared many happy summer sailing stories.

Stuart Abernethy from X-Yachts GB arrived in Cowes with Nick and Lynne Mulholland, the very proud new owners of X4 number 2 who took delivery only last week and had been out test sailing the boat for the weekend.

The Royal Yacht Squadron is the most prestigious yacht club in the world, with the club’s patron being Queen Elizabeth II and the Admiral is Prince Philip. With many thanks to John Oldridge who owns Xc45 ‘Perseverance’ the X-Yacht owners had the great privilege of having dinner in the spectacular castle.

After a Champagne reception the owners moved to the Platform to enjoy a fabulous three-course meal and wine.

The evening was wonderful fun and provided a great opportunity for all the owners to get together and share their passion for X-Yacht sailing.

The next event hosted by the Owners Association will be laying up supper on the 13th November at the Leander Club in Henley.
